A 60-day cruise around the Australian Coast has been cancelled days after the fatal incident of an older woman who was abandoned by the vessel on a remote island.

The passenger had been walking on the remote island with shipmates from the Coral Adventurer, but broke off from the group for a rest. The vessel departed without her and came back several hours later after the personnel realised the passenger was unaccounted for.

A major hunt found her remains the following day.

Investigative bodies are looking into the event, together with investigators and the medical examiner.

Chief Executive of the shipping company announced that travelers and crew on the Coral Adventurer were notified that the remainder of the cruise had been called off due to the "unfortunate death and prior engine troubles".

Via official communication, he mentioned that travelers would be provided a complete reimbursement, and said the operator was working "to arrange the homeward trips of the travelers via chartered flights".

Officials also published an updated statement, and said they had "provided a order to the Master" banning any new passengers from getting on the vessel.

The spokesperson said that they would attend the ship in the Australian city upon its coming back.
